Club Description:

Shodokan Aikido was founded by Kenji Tomiki shihan in 1967 and has its lineage linked directly back to the traditional Daito-ryu Aiki-jujutsu system as used by the Minamoto and Aizu samurai clans and as taught to the founder of Aikido, Morihei Ueshiba sensei.

We faithfully follow the Shodokan syllabus which incorperates traditional pre-aranged forms of kata, self defence and modern competition. Our style of Aikido is practical orientated and focuses on building a solid foundation on which to develop strong and effective Aikido techniques. Our system is practiced in many universities in Japan and around the world, helping to inculate  health, mind and body for generations of students. The Shodokan system is also taught to the Osaka Riot Police, underlining its effectiveness as a martial art that does not rely on strength and can be used to contol your opponents without hurting them.
